Each year, NRPC conducts well over 150 traffic counts at locations throughout the region. These data are used both by NRPC and New Hampshire DOT to generate reports that assist in decision making by local and state officials. NRPC also uses count data to calibrate and validate its traffic modeling program. The NRPC Traffic Count Viewer features two primary datasets:
Road Volumes: these count locations capture 24-hour raw data, which are used to generate weekday (Monday through Friday) averages. Depending on the type of device used for data collection, counts may be active for five days or one week.
Intersection Counts: otherwise known as Turning Movement Counts (TMCs), these counts record the volume of traffic through an intersection by each possible direction. Typically, these counts focus on peak AM and PM travel times (7 – 9AM and 4 – 6PM).
